about the artist
Joseph Jungwirth* 1869 , Wien - † 1950 , Stockholm
He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and studied with Sigmund L'Allemand, August Eisenmenger and Kasimir Poch-Kowalski. The orders for heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand d'Este began with small work in the hunting lodge Lölling in Carinthia and only ended when the heir to the throne was murdered. Franz Ferdinand, seriously ill with the lungs, fought for his health with dogged energy. Because he expected healing from the southern climate, he made long journeys. Josef Jungwirth was his painting travel companion in 1895/96. In 1901 Jungwirth became a full member of the Künstlerhaus and founded an artist colony in Böheimkirchen and Kirchsteig (Lower Austria). 1908 large golden state medal and appointment as full professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. He was elected rector for the years 1928 to 1930, and served as pro rector in 1930/31.
